Dedicated to the fundamentals of hypersonic airbreathing propulsion,  the focus of the National Center for Hypersonic Combined Cycle Propulsion is to advance the understanding of the critical mode transitions and supersonic/hypervelocity flow regimes of combined cycle propulsion. Led by the University of Virginia, it is one of three centers of excellence in hypersonics established by the Air Force office of Scientific Research and NASA.
